2 Things To Think About When Replacing Your Windows

When you want to be more environmentally friendly and save money on your heating and cooling, one of the things that you can do is replace your windows. Your old windows may be drafty and let out a lot of the conditioned air from your house. That wastes your money and makes your HVAC system work harder, which isn't friendly, environmentally speaking. Replacing your windows is fairly easy and can really help you meet your goals. If you are going to replace your windows, you are going to have to consider a few things.

Multi-glazing

One of the things that you are going to have to think about is whether you want to go with a single-pane window or if you want to have a multi-glazed window. A single-pane window only has one pane of glass in each frame of the window. That means that there is only one piece of glass in between your house and the outside. If you are going to go with something that is multi-glazed, then it's going to have more than one pane of glass in each frame. The most common multi-glazed windows are double- and triple-paned windows. The panes aren't set so that they are touching; there is a layer of inert gas in between each of the panes of glass. That gas acts as insulation. That makes it harder for any heat transfer to happen through the panes of glass and keeps your house at the temperature you set it.

Coatings

When you are thinking about getting replacement windows, another thing that you need to think about is whether or not you want to have coatings put on your windows. There are a number of coatings that you can have put on the windows. For example, you can have a UV filter put on the window. The UV filter will help block UV rays from getting into your house. That will do things like keep the rays from fading your furniture and draperies or from causing damage to art that you may have on your walls. There are also privacy coatings that you can put on your windows. Those coatings will make it harder for people to see in your windows from the outside.

If you need to save money on your heating and cooling bills and you want to be more environmentally friendly, then you should consider replacing your windows.
